16mm Film Cinematography in China & Asia
Ryan Potts (Rynos) shoots 16mm and Super 16mm film across commercial, fashion, and narrative projects. Based in Guangzhou and working across Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Hong Kong, he runs the full analog pipeline, from stock and loading through processing, scan, and grade.
Ryan was Director of Photography on First Date in Shanghai, a PAIGE fashion film with Super 16mm footage captured on Kodak Vision3 500T. The wider campaign covered Macau, Hong Kong and Shanghai, with one 100-foot reel shot in each city alongside other footage.
Choosing film for the brief

For PAIGE, the reason was continuity with the brand's Los Angeles campaigns, which already used 16mm. The team carried that visual approach into work for Asia, particularly China. Film served an established brand identity within a campaign that used more than one format.

Which formats and stocks do you shoot?
Super 16mm as the primary format and 16mm spherical, on Kodak Vision3 (200T, 250D, 500T depending on light). In China the workflow is Kodak.
